US Special Forces Carry Out High-Risk Rescue Deep Inside Iran

In one of the most daring military operations of recent years, the United States successfully rescued a stranded pilot from deep inside Iran. The mission was carried out by the elite Navy unit known as SEAL Team 6, which traveled nearly 300 kilometers into hostile territory. The operation lasted around 36 hours and involved air, ground, and intelligence support at multiple levels.

The rescue took place after two US pilots ejected from their F-15E fighter jet, which came under attack during a mission on April 3. While one pilot was found quickly, the second was trapped in mountainous terrain, triggering a large-scale rescue effort.

36-Hour Mission Involving Airstrikes, Intelligence and Ground Combat

The mission required careful planning and coordination. According to reports, Israeli intelligence played a key role in tracking Iranian military movements. At the same time, US forces paused airstrikes temporarily to allow rescue teams to move safely inside enemy territory.

To confuse Iranian forces, the CIA spread false information suggesting that the stranded officer had escaped by road. Meanwhile, US fighter jets monitored the area from above, and special forces advanced on the ground.

When SEAL Team 6 commandos reached the pilot, Iranian forces were already very close. A fierce gunfight broke out, with US forces pushing back the enemy. Transport aircraft landed under heavy fire, and the injured pilot was successfully evacuated.

Aircraft Destroyed to Protect Sensitive Technology

During the mission, two US transport aircraft developed technical problems near Isfahan and could not take off. To prevent sensitive military technology from falling into enemy hands, both aircraft were destroyed on-site using explosives.

This move is similar to past operations, where US forces destroyed their own equipment to maintain secrecy. It highlights the importance of protecting advanced military systems even during emergencies.

Larger Than the Bin Laden Operation

Experts are comparing this rescue mission to the 2011 operation that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. However, the Iran mission was even bigger in scale. While the Abbottabad operation involved around two dozen commandos, this mission included hundreds of special forces personnel, multiple aircraft, helicopters, and advanced cyber and space technologies.

A temporary refueling base was also set up near an abandoned airstrip inside Iran. Special aircraft like MC-130J and helicopters were used, though some faced operational challenges.

Mission Success Without Any US Casualties

Despite the extreme risks, the mission ended successfully without any American casualties. The stranded pilot was rescued, and all members of the rescue team were safely evacuated.

As Iranian forces moved closer, US commandos held their position with gunfire while air support targeted enemy convoys. Finally, three transport aircraft carried the rescued pilot and team out of Iran.

Why SEAL Team 6 Was Created

SEAL Team 6, also known as DEVGRU (Naval Special Warfare Development Group), was formed after a failed US mission in Iran in 1980. During that operation, known as Operation Eagle Claw, eight American soldiers died due to technical issues and poor coordination.

The failure showed that the US needed a highly specialized unit capable of handling high-risk missions in enemy territory. Soon after, SEAL Team 6 was created to perform the most secret and dangerous operations.

One of the World’s Toughest Military Units

Joining SEAL Team 6 is extremely difficult. Soldiers must first become Navy SEALs and gain years of experience. Only a few are selected for advanced training, known as “Green Team.”

This training includes intense physical and mental tests such as long-distance runs, swimming in open water, operating under sleep deprivation, and navigating tough terrain alone. Candidates must also prove their ability to make quick decisions under pressure and work effectively in teams.

Once selected, they undergo specialized training for hostage rescue, stealth entry, night operations, parachuting, and underwater missions. Every scenario is practiced repeatedly to ensure zero mistakes during real missions.

This operation is considered the first confirmed US ground mission inside Iran in 2026. It shows the growing tensions in the region and the willingness of the US to carry out high-risk missions to protect its personnel.
