On the fourth day of the escalating Israel US Iran war, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it has closed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
An IRGC official said on state television that any vessel attempting to pass through the strait could be intercepted or targeted, raising alarm over potential disruption to global energy supply chains.
The Strait of Hormuz is critical to international markets, with a significant portion of the world’s crude oil — including nearly 50% of India’s oil imports — transiting through this narrow waterway.
However, according to reports citing US Central Command (CENTCOM), American officials have stated that despite Iranian claims, the Strait of Hormuz remains open, underscoring heightened Gulf maritime tensions amid the broader Middle East conflict escalation.
