Israel-US vs Iran War Live Updates: IAEA Chief Says No Proof of Active Iranian Nuclear Weapons Programme

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has said inspectors have found no evidence of a coordinated Iranian nuclear weapons programme, despite claims by Israel and the United States. Speaking to NBC News, Grossi stated that the agency had not identified “elements of a systematic and structured program to manufacture nuclear weapons” in Iran amid the escalating US-Iran-Israel geopolitical crisis.

However, Grossi confirmed that Iran has enriched uranium to 60 percent purity, a level significantly higher than what is required for civilian nuclear energy production. He noted that enrichment at this level is typically associated with countries possessing nuclear weapons, intensifying concerns over Iran’s nuclear capabilities during the ongoing Middle East war escalation.

While emphasizing that inspectors cannot conclude Iran intends to build a bomb, Grossi warned that the growing uranium stockpile raises serious questions. He said there was “no clear objective” for accumulating material at that enrichment level, calling it the primary source of international concern over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Grossi added that centrifuges were “spinning constantly,” theoretically producing enough highly enriched uranium to manufacture more than 10 nuclear warheads. “But do they have them? No,” he clarified, underscoring that possession of material does not equate to confirmed nuclear weaponization under current inspections.
